Dave Holland and Pepe Habichuela Quintet featuring Josemi Carmona

Cully, Switzerland

Chapiteau, Cully Jazz Festival

From the Cully Jazz website: There’s something new in the air! Double bass legend, greatest of the great, performer of a half-century of high-wire jazz without a single stumble, Dave Holland returns to Cully in 2013 with a surprise for his fans: flamenco! Teaming up with guitarists Pepe Habichuela and his son Josemi Carmona, Dave Holland’s new project brings together two different cultures with traditions of improvisation. Pepe Habichuela was the first flamenco artist to make a record with an independent label when he worked with free jazz legend Don Cherry. The project he and Dave Holland have crafted is called “Hands” and is an homage to string instruments and tactile sensitivity—the crossroads of techniques results in a sunny, complex tapestry of music that is truly touching.
